Kano Governor Seeks FG’s Urgent Support as Fresh Fire Guts Popular ‘Singer Market’
Governor of Kano State Abba Kabir Yusuf has appealed to the Federal Government to urgently provide modern firefighting equipment, including aerial support, following a second fire outbreak at the popular Singer Market in Kano metropolis.
The governor made the call on Saturday during an on-the-spot assessment at the Gidan Gilas section of the market, where the inferno was still raging and consuming shops and goods.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, Yusuf urged the Federal Government to intervene promptly by equipping fire services with advanced tools to enhance emergency response capacity across major commercial centres in the country.

According to the statement, the governor emphasised that the provision of modern firefighting equipment, particularly air support and other essential facilities, would significantly strengthen efforts to contain large-scale fires and prevent recurrent incidents.
“This intervention will go a long way in enhancing the operational capacity of our fire services and minimising the scale of destruction recorded during such unfortunate incidents,” Yusuf was quoted as saying.
He commended the Kano State Fire Service and security agencies for their swift response and commitment in battling the blaze, despite the challenges encountered.
The governor also appealed to traders and residents to remain calm and cooperate with emergency responders as efforts continued to bring the situation under control and safeguard lives and property.
Singer Market is one of Kano’s major commercial hubs, and the latest incident marks the second fire outbreak recorded at the facility, raising concerns over fire safety and emergency preparedness in the state’s bustling markets.
