…..VP Says focus now on Hydros, as the nation crave for robust      Energy mix

The Vice-President, Arc. Mohammad Namadi Sambo has inaugurated the Gwagwalada Transmission facility.  While performing the official cutting of Tape, he described the project as a key in the realization of series of projects executed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), aimed at improvement of electricity supply nation-wide.

Arc. Sambo assured Nigerians that before the end of the administration many more projects will be commissioned, noting that the strategic location of this project in Gwagwalada is informed by the need to provide secured, guaranteed supply to the nation’s capital and its environ.

He reminded his audience that the trunk line of this project is to complete line beginning from Geregu Thermal plant.

He observed that the lines will help a great deal in ensuring that the grid system is stable, as it would enable extensive transmission work to be done without massive loss in power.

The VP commended the NDPHC for its continuous stride at improving power infrastructure and facilities, indeed by extension increased and improved supply.

He announced that after the realization of all thermal projects, NDPHC focus will be the construction of a number of hydro plants in the Northern part of Nigeria, where hydro potentials are enormous, as this will ensure a robust energy mix, thereby guaranteeing supply stability.

He commended the host communities for being patriotic, stressing that together, we shall continue to make positive contributions in the development of Nigeria.

He appealed to indigenes to jealously protect and guard this asset, as generation yet unborn will build on the gains of an enduring project.

The Minister of Power, Professor Chinedu Nebo described it as another major accomplishment of Niger Holding Company and indeed dividend of Mr. President’s Transformation Agenda.

He said it is gratifying for Nigerians to appreciate NDPHC, a Nigerian owned entity with stakes by Federal Government, States and Local Councils, has been in the fore front of the quest that would ensure that no part of Nigeria is left in darkness.

Worried by the menace of vandalism, the Minister called on Nigerians to rise to the challenge created by these vandals.  “Today, we have the capacity to generate 6,000MW from gas to power alone, but we cannot realize these gains, we also have the wheeling capacity for 5,500MW”.  “We saddened that we are here today wholly because of vandalism”.

The Chairman Senate Committee on Power and Senator elect, FCT, Philip Aduda described the project as dear to the people living in the area, stressing that supply improvement would be noticed in Nasarawa, Abaji, Kuje and Gwagwalada wholly because of this transmission infrastructure.

He thus commended Government through NDPHC for the inauguration of the project, stating that it is part of the cardinal objective of Mr. President’s vision for the power sector.
