Tinubu Mourns Chief of Naval Operations, Rear Admiral Musa Katagum
President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sadness over the death of the Chief of Naval Operations of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Musa Bello Katagum, who passed away on Thursday following a prolonged illness.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended condolences to the family of the late naval officer, as well as to the officers and men of the Nigerian Navy and the leadership of the Armed Forces.

“President Tinubu condoled with his family, officers and men of the Nigerian Navy, and the leadership of the Armed Forces over the loss. He described Rear Admiral Katagum’s passing as a significant blow to the military and the nation, given his extensive experience and invaluable contributions to the Nigerian Navy and the Armed Forces as a whole,” the statement read.
Rear Admiral Katagum held several key positions during his distinguished career, including Director of the Presidential Communication, Command and Control Centre (PC4), and Chief of Intelligence of the Nigerian Navy. He was appointed Chief of Naval Operations in November 2025.
The President lauded the late rear admiral for his valor, exemplary leadership, and dedication to mentoring younger officers. He also prayed for the repose of his soul and comfort for his family and colleagues during this period of mourning.
