
Benue Gov Hails Tinubu for Boosting Army Firepower
Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for strengthening the operational capability of the Nigerian Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for strengthening the operational capability of the Nigerian Army through the provision of modern weapons and critical military equipment to confront rising security challenges across the country.
Alia gave the commendation on Thursday while receiving the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Makurdi.
The governor noted that the Federal Government’s investment in modern military hardware would significantly enhance the capacity of troops to tackle insecurity, particularly in states facing persistent threats from armed groups and criminal elements.
According to him, the improved firepower and operational tools being provided to the Nigerian Army demonstrate the commitment of the President to strengthening national security and protecting lives and property.
Alia described the visit of the Army Chief as timely, especially at a period when intensified security operations are required to restore peace and stability in parts of the state affected by violent attacks.
He commended the Nigerian Army for its resilience and dedication to safeguarding communities despite the challenges confronting troops in various theatres of operation.

The governor also welcomed the deployment of additional troops to reinforce ongoing military operations in the state, expressing optimism that the strengthened presence of security forces would help curb criminal activities and reassure residents.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff assured the Benue State Government that the Nigerian Army was reinforcing its operational capacity to achieve improved security outcomes in the state and other parts of the country.
The Army Chief noted that the acquisition of modern weapons and combat enablers, made possible through the support of President Tinubu, would significantly boost the effectiveness of troops in ongoing counter-insurgency and internal security operations.
He also commended the Benue State Government and residents for their resilience and sustained support to security agencies despite the security challenges confronting some communities.
The COAS particularly appreciated the cooperation extended to troops under Operation Whirl Stroke, noting that the synergy between the military, state authorities and local communities has continued to support ongoing security operations.
He further urged the state government and residents to sustain close collaboration with the military and other security agencies, stressing that effective cooperation remains essential for achieving lasting peace and stability.
In response, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s continued support for the Nigerian Army and other security agencies as they intensify efforts to curb criminality and restore normalcy across Benue State.
He assured the Army leadership that the state government would continue to provide the necessary cooperation to ensure the success of ongoing security operations.
