NAF Repels ISWAP Attack on Banki Military Base
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, supported by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), have successfully repelled an attempted attack by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on a military base in Banki, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources said the insurgents launched the assault in the early hours of Friday, advancing in large numbers in what appeared to be an attempt to overrun the military formation.
However, troops stationed at the base immediately engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, successfully resisting the offensive and preventing the insurgents from breaching the facility.

According to the sources, the Nigerian Air Force swiftly deployed an aircraft to provide close air support to the ground troops as the battle intensified.
“The terrorists fled upon sighting the approaching aircraft and were seen scampering into nearby bushes to escape the combined firepower of the troops and the air component,” a security source said.
The attempted attack was ultimately foiled, forcing the insurgents to abandon the operation.
No immediate casualty figures were available at the time of filing this report, while security forces have commenced assessment and clearance operations in the area.
Banki, a border town near Cameroon, remains a key frontline location in ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.
