Army Arrests 2 Gunrunners, Recover 444 Rounds of Ammunition in Taraba
Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested two suspected gunrunners and recovered 444 rounds of ammunition during a routine operation in Taraba State.
The suspects were apprehended on March 19, 2026, during a stop-and-search exercise conducted by troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base in Wukari, along the Wukari–Ikyaior Road in Wukari Local Government Area.
The arrested individuals were identified as Wisdom Soomga, 32, from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, and Elisha Danladi, 38, a native of Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. They were reportedly intercepted while riding a motorcycle.

Military sources disclosed that a thorough search led to the recovery of 444 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Other items recovered from the suspects include ₦29,200 in cash, two mobile phones, ATM cards, charms, personal belongings, and the motorcycle used in conveying the ammunition.
The suspects, along with the recovered items, are currently in military custody pending further investigation to determine the origin and intended use of the ammunition.
Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their vigilance and swift action, noting that the operation aligns with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff to intensify efforts against criminal elements.
He urged personnel to sustain the operational tempo in order to enhance security across Taraba State. The commander also reassured residents of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while calling on the public to provide timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.
Akaliro further emphasized the brigade’s commitment to maintaining a robust system of rewards and discipline, assuring that personnel who demonstrate professionalism, courage, and dedication would be appropriately recognized.
