Army, Police Deepen Collaboration to Tackle Security Challenges
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has stressed the necessity of a unified and well-coordinated approach among security agencies as critical to addressing Nigeria’s complex and evolving security threats.
He made this known on Wednesday while receiving the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, during a maiden familiarisation visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
The COAS noted that effective collaboration among security institutions remains indispensable to achieving sustainable peace and national security, particularly in the face of multifaceted internal security challenges.
Earlier, the IGP called for enhanced collaboration and sustained inter-agency synergy between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force, emphasizing that stronger cooperation would significantly improve responses to prevailing threats across the country.

He commended the enduring strategic partnership between both institutions, describing it as vital to the attainment of national security objectives. The police chief also expressed appreciation for the Army’s continued support in capacity development, particularly in the training of Police Mobile Force personnel, which he said has boosted operational effectiveness in various theatres.
The IGP further assured the Army of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to intelligence sharing and operational coordination to strengthen ongoing and future joint security operations.
In his remarks, the COAS congratulated the IGP on his appointment as the 23rd Inspector General of Police and reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to deepening inter-agency cooperation in line with his command philosophy.
He recalled their previous collaboration during service in the United Nations Mission in Darfur, noting that the shared professional background underscores the importance of teamwork in complex operational environments.
The Army chief also acknowledged the support of the Nigeria Police Force in ongoing operations, particularly in Kogi, Kwara and Niger states, where joint efforts against banditry and kidnapping have continued to record positive outcomes.
He assured the IGP of sustained military support, reiterating that only a unified and coordinated inter-agency framework can guarantee lasting peace and security across the country.
