Troops Repel Bandit Attacks in Sokoto, Zamfara, Rescue Six Victims
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recorded fresh operational successes in the North-West, repelling separate bandit attacks in Sokoto and Zamfara States and rescuing six kidnapped victims.
Security sources said the operations were conducted on March 29 following distress calls from affected communities and commuters.
In Sokoto State, troops of 8 Division Garrison, deployed at the Forward Operating Base in Sabon Birni, responded to an attack on Maiwa village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area at about 1:00 a.m.
On arrival, the troops engaged the bandits in a firefight, forcing them to abandon one kidnapped victim. However, the attackers fled with three others into the surrounding bush.

Troops reportedly pursued the fleeing assailants, but their advance was hampered by difficult riverine terrain and poor visibility. Efforts are ongoing to track the bandits and rescue the remaining captives.
In a related operation in Zamfara State, troops of 1 Brigade Counter-Terrorism Unit 2, deployed at the Forward Operating Base in Sabon Garin, repelled a bandit attack on commuters along the Sabon Gida–Anguwan Rogo axis in Gusau Local Government Area.
The incident occurred at about 8:25 p.m., with troops swiftly engaging the attackers and forcing them to retreat.
During the operation, five victims were rescued, including one who sustained gunshot injuries. The injured victim was evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.
Troops also recovered the body of one victim at the scene, which was subsequently handed over to his relatives.
Military sources said security forces have continued efforts to track the fleeing bandits and prevent further attacks across the affected areas.
