Group Supports Female Prisoners in Bauchi
The Carmelite Prisoners’ Interest Organization (CAPIO), a non governmental organization has visited Bauchi State as part of its continued efforts to see to the implementation of the gender sensitive approach in various women prisons in the country.
While addressing the Controller of Prisons Bauchi State Command, the Executive Director CAPIO, Rev.Fr. Ambrose Ekeroku noted that Bauchi is one of the Six voice States selected for the implementation of the gender sensitive approach.

He added that CAPIO in conjunction with the Prison Inmates Development Initiative (PIDI) had in January this year organized a training workshop for Prison officers, particularly Female officers as a way of imparting knowledge to Officers in the Prisons Training Schools and the Officers in-Charge of female Prisons. The officers are expected to step- down the knowledge to other officers as a way of sustaining the project.
Rev.Fr. Ambrose thanked the Controller of Prisons Bauchi State Command for his reception and implored him to give the organization his maximum support in order to ensure that the dignity and human rights of women in Prisons are respected..
Responding, CP Suleiman T. Suleiman expressed satisfaction for choosing Bauchi to be part of the pilot states for test running the project. He assured them of his support for the successful implementation of the project in all the Prison formations in Bauchi State.
