Commanding Officer, 6 Soldiers Killed as Troops Repel Terrorist Attack in Monguno
Troops of Sector 3 under the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have repelled a terrorist attack on a military position in Monguno, Borno State, in a late-night engagement on April 12, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI, the incident occurred at a location identified as Charlie 13, where troops came under what was described as an isolated infiltration attack by suspected terrorists.
The troops engaged the attackers in a fierce firefight, successfully repelling the assault and forcing the insurgents to retreat, while maintaining control of the position.

However, tragedy struck in the aftermath of the encounter as the Commanding Officer, who was moving towards the location to personally assess the situation, ran into an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The explosion severely damaged his vehicle, resulting in his death alongside six other soldiers.
Military authorities described the fallen officer as a courageous leader who demonstrated exceptional bravery and commitment to duty, noting that his decision to move toward the frontline despite prevailing risks reflected the highest standards of military leadership.
Operation HADIN KAI also paid tribute to the six other personnel who lost their lives, describing them as gallant soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East, stressing that the sacrifice of the fallen troops would not be in vain.
