The Senator representing Bauchi South in the 10th National Assembly, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, has formally declared his intention to contest the Bauchi State governorship election in 2027 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Umar made the declaration on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Magama Town in Toro Local Government Area, describing his ambition as a commitment to building “a more prosperous, secure, and united Bauchi State.”
He said his vision is anchored on inclusive growth, transparent governance, youth empowerment, and improved security, noting that the APC remains the most viable platform to achieve these goals.
“This journey is about delivering equitable development and ensuring the welfare and security of our people,” he said.
The lawmaker expressed confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that national policies under the APC continue to inspire confidence across the country.
Reflecting on his tenure in the Senate, Umar highlighted his legislative contributions, including sponsorship of key bills such as the Cybercrime Act Amendment signed into law in 2024, as well as amendments relating to the Federal Medical Centre, Federal Orthopaedic Hospital, and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), among others.
He also cited motions aimed at addressing economic hardship and improving federal presence in Bauchi State, including advocacy for subsidy relief measures and the establishment of a Customs training school in the state.
On constituency interventions, the senator listed several projects across Bauchi South, covering education support, infrastructure development, healthcare assistance, and youth empowerment initiatives.

According to him, hundreds of students have benefited from scholarships, training programmes, and examination sponsorships, while infrastructure projects such as road construction, classroom development, solar installations, and water schemes have been executed across communities.
He also pointed to employment opportunities facilitated for indigenes at the federal level, as well as support for farmers through fertiliser distribution and agricultural inputs.
Beyond legislative and constituency projects, Senator Buba is widely noted for sustained political and social support across the state. He has provided vehicles and monthly financial support to the APC structure in Bauchi down to the ward level, strengthening grassroots mobilisation.
He is also known for distributing cash gifts and food items during festive periods to both Christian and Muslim communities, as well as offering regular financial assistance and welfare support to vulnerable families, community groups, and individuals in need.
Declaring his ambition, Umar said the decision followed wide consultations and growing calls from stakeholders across the state.
“I stand before you to formally declare my intention to contest for the office of Governor of Bauchi State in the 2027 elections. I seek your support, your prayers, and your partnership,” he said.
He criticised the performance of the current PDP-led administration, arguing that despite available resources, the state has not achieved expected developmental outcomes.
“Bauchi deserves better. We have the capacity, ideas, and track record to transform our state,” he added.
The senator pledged to replicate his constituency-level achievements across the entire state if elected governor.
According to the statement, Senator Shehu Buba Umar reaffirmed his commitment to delivering people-oriented leadership and called on party members and residents to unite in building what he described as “the Bauchi of our dreams.”
