Nigerian Law School Port Harcourt Faces Uproar Over Alleged Sexual Harassment
Fresh allegations of sexual harassment and abuse of office have emerged at the Port Harcourt Campus of the Nigerian Law School following a dramatic confrontation during a town hall meeting attended by senior officials from the institution’s headquarters in Abuja.
The development has stirred concern within the academic community and intensified calls for an independent investigation into workplace conduct and staff welfare at the prestigious legal training institution.
PRNigeria gathered that the incident occurred during an official visit by the management of the Nigerian Law School from the institution’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, to the Port Harcourt campus for an interactive session with staff members.
The Port Harcourt campus is headed by the Deputy Director-General, Mr. Chinonso Mmuozuba.
According to multiple sources familiar with the meeting, tension erupted when a nurse attached to the campus clinic openly accused a senior management official of sexual harassment, intimidation, and abuse of authority.
Witnesses said the staff member alleged during the session that the official pressured her into a sexual relationship despite her being married and later subjected her to victimisation after she allegedly withdrew from the relationship following the arrival of her husband in Port Harcourt.
The woman further claimed that she suffered administrative reprisals, including the alleged denial of promotion opportunities, after refusing further advances.
Sources at the meeting told PRNigeria that the allegations created visible shock and unease within the hall, prompting the visiting management delegation to intervene and halt further public discussion on the matter.

The delegation was said to have advised the complainant to formally present her grievances privately to the management team rather than continue the allegations publicly during the town hall engagement.
The incident has since generated intense discussions among staff members and observers within the institution, particularly because the accusations were made directly in the presence of top management officials during an official administrative session.
Additional allegations circulating within the campus community — which PRNigeria could not independently verify — also accuse the embattled official of maintaining inappropriate relationships with other female staff members and allegedly using administrative influence to intimidate perceived opponents within the institution.
However, as of the time of filing this report, neither the accused official nor the management of the Nigerian Law School had issued an official response to the allegations.
Efforts by PRNigeria to obtain comments from the Port Harcourt campus authorities and officials at the Nigerian Law School headquarters in Abuja were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
Specifically, our reporter made several attempts to reach the Deputy Director-General of Port-Harcourt Campus of the Law School, Chinonso Mmuozuba via direct phone calls on Monday morning, but his line remained unreachable.
A WhatsApp message was also sent to him requesting his response to the allegations on his campus in the interest of fairness and balanced reporting, but he had yet to respond before publication.
The development comes amid increasing national conversations around workplace harassment, abuse of authority, gender safety, and institutional accountability within public institutions and tertiary establishments across the country.
Observers say the allegations, given the stature of the Nigerian Law School as the country’s foremost legal training institution, may further amplify demands for stronger internal grievance mechanisms and transparent disciplinary processes in academic and professional institutions.
