New Army Depot in Ebonyi’ll Enhance National Security, Regional Stability – COAS
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has said the newly established Depot Nigerian Army, Amasiri-Edda in Ebonyi State will significantly enhance national security, strengthen regional stability and boost the Nigerian Army’s operational readiness.
Shaibu stated this on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, ahead of the maiden Passing Out Parade of recruits at the new depot, describing the facility as a historic milestone in the transformation of the Army’s training and force generation architecture.
According to the COAS, the depot—the first of its kind in Nigeria’s South-East geopolitical zone—was established in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to strengthen the Army’s operational readiness, expand manpower generation and promote national integration through the equitable distribution of military infrastructure.
He described the depot as a strategic national asset that would play a vital role in training disciplined, professional and combat-ready soldiers capable of responding to the country’s evolving security challenges.

The Army chief also commended the Ebonyi State Government for its sustained support to the Nigerian Army and called for greater collaboration in intelligence sharing, civil-military cooperation and the protection of critical national assets.
He stressed that lasting peace and security can only be achieved through collective efforts involving government institutions, security agencies and citizens.
Responding, Governor Nwifuru praised the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff and the sacrifices of Nigerian Army personnel in defending the nation’s sovereignty and maintaining internal security.
He described the establishment of the Depot Nigerian Army, Amasiri-Edda, as a landmark achievement for Ebonyi State and the wider South-East, expressing confidence that it would strengthen the Army’s manpower base, stimulate local economic activities, enhance regional security and promote national unity.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining its partnership with the Nigerian Army and pledged continued support to enable the force to effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities.
