Troops Repel ISWAP Attack on Gajigana Base, Eliminate Scores of Terrorists
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajigana, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State, inflicting heavy casualties on the insurgents.
Security sources said the attack occurred at about 7:20 p.m. on July 19 when scores of terrorists, riding multiple motorcycles and supported by two gun trucks, launched an assault on the military formation, while another group advanced on foot.
Troops of the 212 Battalion reportedly detected the advancing insurgents early and responded with overwhelming firepower, effectively thwarting the attack and forcing the terrorists to retreat.
A reinforcement team led by the Commanding Officer of the 212 Battalion arrived shortly after the initial engagement, strengthening the troops’ defensive position and helping to stabilise the situation.

According to military sources, the terrorists suffered significant casualties during the failed assault, with several bodies reportedly evacuated from the battlefield by their fleeing comrades.
Two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange of fire. They were stabilised at the scene before being evacuated to the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital for further treatment.
The military also recorded minor damage to one gun truck after its body and four tyres were hit by fragments from a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) during the firefight.
Military authorities said troops would conduct a battlefield exploitation operation at first light to ascertain the full extent of the terrorists’ losses and recover any weapons, ammunition or equipment abandoned during their retreat.
The successful defence of the Gajigana military base highlights the sustained operational readiness of Operation HADIN KAI and its determination to deny terrorist groups freedom of action while maintaining pressure on insurgent strongholds across the North-East.
