
NAF Trains Nigerian Army Personnel to Strengthen Joint Special Forces Capability
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced the screening of Nigerian Army personnel for Special Forces training as part of efforts to strengthen joint warfighting capability and enhance operational readiness across the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The exercise, being conducted by the NAF Regiment Training Centre Annex (RTCA) in Bauchi, involves comprehensive medical examinations and rigorous physical fitness assessments designed to determine the suitability of prospective participants for the demanding Special Forces training programme.
According to the NAF, the screening marks the first phase in preparing highly skilled operators capable of undertaking complex and high-risk military operations.
The Service said the initiative reflects its commitment to strengthening joint military operations through professional training and sustained inter-service collaboration.

It noted that by providing specialised training opportunities for personnel of sister services, the NAF is enhancing interoperability, deepening mutual understanding and building a more integrated and mission-ready Armed Forces capable of delivering coordinated effects across the joint battlespace.
Speaking during the exercise, the Commandant of the Regiment Training Centre Annex, Bauchi, Squadron Leader Lawrence Akpan, described the screening as a critical step in producing competent and mission-ready Special Forces operators.
He said Special Forces personnel play a vital role in counter-terrorism and other high-risk operations, where expertise in special reconnaissance, direct action, precision strikes and operations in austere environments is essential to mission success.
Akpan added that the programme exemplifies the synergy and jointness that underpin the Armed Forces of Nigeria, while demonstrating the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to training excellence and stronger inter-service cooperation.
He reaffirmed the NAF’s resolve to continue building a highly professional, interoperable and mission-ready Armed Forces capable of safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and protecting the lives and property of citizens.
