Troops Rescue 48 Kidnap Victims as Terrorists Flee After Gun Battle in Zamfara

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 48 kidnapped victims following a swift military response to a terrorist attack on Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The rescue operation took place in the early hours of Saturday after troops of Sector 2 responded to a distress call reporting that a large group of terrorists, riding about 40 motorcycles, had stormed the community and abducted dozens of residents.

According to the military, the attackers had rounded up the victims with the intention of taking them into the bush, while another group of terrorists remained on the outskirts of the village with the motorcycles.

On arrival, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to abandon the abducted civilians and flee into the surrounding bush. The military said the prompt intervention resulted in the successful rescue of all 48 victims.

However, one civilian was killed during the attack, while two others sustained gunshot injuries. The injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda, where they are receiving medical treatment.

Following the operation, troops conducted aggressive patrols across the area to prevent further attacks and maintain security.

The Theatre Command of Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism, reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property across the North West.

It also urged residents to continue supporting security operations by providing timely and credible information to security agencies to sustain ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorist groups operating in the region.
