Army Rescues Two Kidnap Victims During Operation in Taraba
Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have rescued two kidnapped victims during a coordinated offensive operation in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The rescue operation was carried out in the early hours of July 26, 2026, following credible intelligence on the activities of kidnappers in the Lande Jessi general area.
According to military authorities, the operation was launched after reports that armed criminal elements had attacked Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani villages, abducting two residents and making away with food items.

Acting on actionable intelligence, the troops conducted targeted search-and-rescue operations across identified locations within the area, leading to the successful rescue of the two victims, identified as Mr. Usman Mohammed and Mr. Usman Harusu.
The military said the victims had been held captive for about one week before they were freed by the troops.
Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, Brig.-Gen. Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their swift response, professionalism and resilience during the operation.
He described the successful rescue as a reflection of the brigade’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Taraba State, while reaffirming the military’s resolve to sustain offensive operations against criminal elements threatening peace and security in the state.
The Nigerian Army urged residents to continue supporting ongoing security operations by providing timely and credible information that would aid efforts to combat kidnapping and other forms of criminality.
