Police Repel Bandit Attack in Sokoto, Recover Ammunition After Fierce Gun Battle
Operatives of the Sokoto State Police Command have successfully repelled a bandit attack on Tauma Village in Bodinga Local Government Area, recovering ammunition after a fierce gun battle with the fleeing criminals.
The operation, carried out on the night of 25 July 2026, followed a distress call from a concerned resident who alerted security agencies that a large group of heavily armed bandits had invaded the community.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police on Sunday, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately mobilised tactical operatives, including personnel of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), to confront the attackers.
The joint security team engaged the bandits in an intense exchange of gunfire, forcing them to retreat into a nearby forest after sustaining gunshot wounds due to the superior firepower of the operatives.

The Command said no casualties were recorded among security personnel or residents during the operation.
To forestall further attacks and reassure residents, the Police said confidence-building patrols have been intensified across the affected area, while neighbouring police divisions have been placed on high alert.
The Command added that all formations have been directed to monitor hospitals, clinics and communities for suspected bandits who may seek treatment for gunshot injuries or attempt to hide within their jurisdictions.
The Police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or persons, particularly individuals with visible gunshot wounds, to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
The Sokoto State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations and collaboration with other security agencies to combat banditry and ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
