Two Soldiers Killed as Troops Repel Terrorist Attacks in Zamfara, Niger, Recover Weapons, Motorcycles
Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded fresh operational gains against terrorists in separate engagements in Zamfara and Niger states, recovering a machine gun, ammunition and six motorcycles, although one soldier was killed and two others wounded during the operations.
Military sources said the operations, conducted on July 25 and 26, formed part of ongoing efforts to deny terrorists freedom of movement and strengthen security along key routes and vulnerable communities.
In Zamfara State, troops of the 1 Brigade responded to reports of terrorist activity along the Anka–Gummi Main Supply Route (MSR) at Kombo High Ground in Bukuyum Local Government Area at about 5:48 p.m. on July 25.
The troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight, forcing them to retreat from the area.
A subsequent search of the scene led to the recovery of one machine gun and 13 rounds of PKT ammunition abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
One soldier sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter and was evacuated to the General Hospital in Anka for treatment, while four tyres of Combat Support Service (CSS) military vehicles were damaged during the operation.

Meanwhile, in Niger State, troops of the 45 Battalion deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Beri, working in conjunction with the 18 Brigade Quick Reaction Force (QRF) and personnel of the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC) Administrative Battalion, successfully ambushed suspected terrorists in Kontagora Local Government Area.
The ambush was carried out at about 5:30 p.m. on July 25 at a known terrorist crossing point in Tudun Magaji Village, where troops engaged the armed terrorists in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Military sources said an unspecified number of the terrorists were neutralised during the encounter.
However, one soldier was killed in action, while another sustained gunshot wounds and was evacuated for medical treatment.
During a follow-up exploitation operation conducted at about 6:00 a.m. on July 26, troops recovered six motorcycles believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
Military authorities said clearance and pursuit operations are continuing in both operational theatres to track down the fleeing terrorists, recover additional weapons and prevent further attacks.
The latest operations underscore the Nigerian Army’s sustained offensive against terrorist groups operating across the North-West and North-Central regions, with troops maintaining pressure on criminal elements through intelligence-led operations and coordinated ground assaults.
