573,680 Applied, 3,852 Succeeded as Customs Releases Final Recruitment List
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has released the final list of successful candidates for its 2024/2025 recruitment exercise and announced that recruitment into the Service will now be conducted annually.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, said 3,852 candidates were selected from 573,680 applications received nationwide.
According to him, 1,275 candidates were admitted into the Superintendent Cadre, 367 into the Inspectorate Cadre, and 2,210 into the Customs Assistant Cadre.
Adeniyi described the exercise as one of the most competitive in the history of the Service, with an overall success rate of 0.67 per cent, representing roughly one successful candidate for every 148 applicants.
He apologised for the prolonged duration of the recruitment process, which began in December 2024, saying the delay was caused by the large volume of applications, extensive verification procedures, and administrative pressures arising from retirements and turnover within the Service.
The Customs boss said all successful candidates passed through application screening, computer-based examinations, and verification of credentials against the national identity database. He added that they would now proceed to physical and medical assessments and a final review by the Nigeria Customs Service Board.

On geographical distribution, Adeniyi said all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory were represented on the final list. He explained that each state received 35 Superintendent Cadre slots, 10 Inspectorate Cadre slots, and 60 Customs Assistant Cadre slots, while the FCT received 72 places in line with the applicable formula.
He also disclosed that women secured 839 of the 3,852 positions, representing 21.8 per cent of the intake.
The Comptroller General said the Service was not satisfied with the current level of female participation and would intensify efforts to attract more qualified women into enforcement and operational roles in future recruitment exercises.
Adeniyi further announced that the NCS would adopt a predictable annual recruitment cycle beginning with the 2026 exercise, which he said would be completed within a single calendar year.
“Recruitment will no longer be an occasional exercise undertaken every several years. It will become a standing, predictable, yearly process,” he said.
He warned successful candidates to rely only on official communication channels and reiterated that recruitment into the Nigeria Customs Service is free of charge.
“Anyone who solicits payment on behalf of the Service is a criminal and should be reported,” he added.
