Military Eliminates Terrorists, Intercepts Courier with 180 Explosives in Zamfara
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have intensified offensive operations against terrorists in Zamfara State, neutralising several insurgents, recovering weapons and intercepting a courier transporting 180 explosive materials to terrorist elements.
The latest operations, conducted on August 14, 2026, formed part of sustained clearance operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and disrupting their logistics and operational capabilities across the North-West.
In Birnin Magaji Local Government Area, troops of Sector 2 conducting an offensive clearance operation made contact with terrorists around Garin Kaso and engaged them in a fierce firefight.
Two terrorists were confirmed neutralised during the initial encounter, while troops recovered two rifles, two magazines, nine rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles from the area.

The troops subsequently came under an attempted ambush by another group of terrorists who attacked from concealed positions.
However, the soldiers responded decisively, fought through the ambush and inflicted further casualties on the terrorists, forcing the surviving elements to retreat and flee the area.
The operation also resulted in the interception of a terrorist courier who was allegedly conveying 180 explosive materials to terrorist elements operating in the state.
The seizure is considered a significant disruption to the terrorists’ logistics network, particularly their capacity to acquire and deploy explosive devices for attacks against troops and civilian targets.
The Joint Task Force said the operations are part of ongoing efforts to maintain pressure on terrorist groups and deny them freedom of movement and access to logistics within its area of responsibility.
Troops are expected to sustain clearance and interdiction operations across identified terrorist strongholds and routes used for the movement of personnel, weapons and other operational supplies.
