Troops Repel ISWAP Assault on Borno Military Base, Eliminate Several Terrorists, Recover Weapons
Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have foiled a multi-pronged attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mandaragirau in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, when the terrorists launched a simultaneous assault on the military base from two fronts.
According to a statement by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the advancing terrorists were detected by the troops’ early-warning and surveillance systems.
A combat team was immediately deployed to intercept the attackers along one of their axes of advance, leading to an intense exchange of fire during which the troops decisively repelled the terrorists.
The second group of insurgents attempted to circumvent the ambush team and infiltrate the military camp but was met with superior firepower from the troops and equally defeated.

The coordinated response forced the terrorists to withdraw in disarray, prompting the troops to launch a hot pursuit and thoroughly exploit the area of contact as well as the insurgents’ withdrawal routes.
The operation resulted in the neutralisation of several terrorists and the recovery of a substantial quantity of weapons and military equipment.
Items recovered included AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines, a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launcher with bombs and chargers, a camcorder video camera and other combat-enabling equipment.
The military said subsequent footage obtained from surveillance systems showed the terrorists dragging away several bodies of their slain colleagues towards the Timbuktu Triangle.
It added that no casualty was recorded among the troops during the encounter.
The Theatre Command commended the troops of 162 Amphibious Battalion for their courage, professionalism and tactical proficiency in thwarting the coordinated assault.
The successful repulsion of the attack, according to the command, underscores the troops’ high level of operational readiness and aggressive posture in denying terrorists freedom of action within the North-East theatre.
Operation HADIN KAI, the statement added, remains committed to dominating the battlespace, degrading terrorist capabilities and restoring lasting peace and security across the North-East.
