Troops Foil Terrorist Abductions, Rescue 7 Victims, Defuse IED in Zamfara
Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled separate terrorist abduction attempts, rescued civilians and neutralised an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along a major road in Zamfara State.
The operations were conducted on August 17, 2026, as troops intensified efforts to disrupt terrorist activities and protect communities across the Joint Operations Area.
In one of the operations, troops of Sector 2 responded to an abduction incident along the Gurusu–Anka Road and immediately pursued the fleeing terrorists.
The troops’ intervention reportedly forced the attackers to abandon their captives and escape into the surrounding area.
Seven victims, comprising four women and three children, were rescued unharmed.
In a separate operation in Tsafe Local Government Area, troops responded to reports of terrorists attempting to abduct motorists around Magazu village.
The troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their intended victims and flee into the surrounding bushes.

Some of the rescued civilians reportedly sustained gunshot wounds during the incident and were immediately evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.
Earlier the same day, troops of Sector 2 responded to the discovery of a terrorist-planted IED along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.
The area was promptly cordoned off to prevent civilian and military casualties, while an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was deployed to neutralise the device.
The successful operation averted a potentially deadly attack on troops and motorists using the route.
The latest operations underscore the troops’ continued efforts to disrupt terrorist activities, protect civilians and secure major transportation routes across Zamfara State.
The Theatre Command said troops would sustain offensive and intelligence-led operations against terrorist elements across the Joint Operations Area and deny them the freedom to threaten innocent citizens.
It also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
