Kano NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel Unveils Refurbished Office, Boosts Journalists’ Welfare
The Kano Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commissioned its newly refurbished office complex at the Kano Press Centre, with media stakeholders describing the project as a major step towards improving journalists’ welfare, professionalism and unity.
The renovated facility, located within the NUJ Secretariat in Kano, was officially unveiled during a ceremony attended by journalists, media executives and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, former Kano State Commissioner for Information and former National President of the NUJ, Comrade Muhammad Garba, commended the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Murtala Adewale, and his executive for transforming the office into a more conducive workspace for journalists.
Garba described the refurbishment as a significant investment in the profession, noting that an improved working environment would enhance productivity and strengthen collaboration among members.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR) and senior lecturer at Bayero University, Kano, Professor Sule Ya’u Sule, lauded the leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel for its foresight in undertaking the project.
He said the refurbished office would provide members with a befitting environment for professional activities, meetings, stakeholder engagements and collaborative work.
Professor Sule urged the chapel leadership to build on the achievement by introducing additional initiatives aimed at enhancing members’ professional capacity, welfare and unity.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Murtala Adewale, said the refurbishment formed part of his administration’s commitment to repositioning the chapel and improving the working conditions of its members.
According to him, the project was conceived to provide journalists with a functional and conducive environment where they could hold meetings, engage stakeholders and effectively discharge their professional responsibilities.
He attributed the successful completion of the project to careful planning, collective commitment and the support of individuals and stakeholders who shared the vision of strengthening the chapel.
Adewale expressed appreciation to all those who contributed to the renovation, describing the commissioning as another milestone in the history of the chapel.
He noted that beyond serving as an administrative office, the facility would function as a centre for professional engagement, capacity building and stronger interaction among members.
The chapel chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to initiatives that would improve the welfare and professional standing of journalists, stressing that a united and vibrant chapel remained essential to advancing the interests of its members.
He also highlighted other institutional reforms undertaken by the chapel, including the establishment of a cooperative society designed to enhance members’ financial stability and provide mutual support.
Among the dignitaries who attended the commissioning were Alhaji Abdullateef Abubakar Jos, Malam Habibu Kila and Hajiya Aishatu Sule, alongside journalists and media stakeholders from across the state.
The commissioning of the refurbished office forms part of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel’s broader efforts to strengthen its institutional structures and create an enabling environment for journalists to carry out their professional duties more effectively.
