Troops Foil Terrorists Incursion, Recover AK-47, Ammunition in Sokoto
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted an attempted advance by armed terrorists towards Ghandi town in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State, forcing the attackers to retreat and abandoning weapons and other operational items.
The operation, conducted on Sunday, August 30, 2026, followed credible intelligence indicating the movement of an armed group towards the area.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the troops deployed to strategic positions around the Ghandi Bridge, where they intercepted the terrorists and engaged them with superior firepower.

The intense encounter reportedly overwhelmed the attackers, forcing them to withdraw in disarray. Several of the terrorists were reportedly wounded during the exchange of fire, with some attempting to escape by jumping into a nearby river.
A subsequent clearance and search operation conducted at daybreak led to the recovery of weapons and other items abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
The items recovered included one AK-47 rifle, one loaded magazine, additional rounds of ammunition and various personal effects.
Security forces have continued search and mop-up operations in the general area as efforts intensify to locate the fleeing terrorists and prevent any further threat to communities in the area.
The latest operation underscores the ongoing efforts by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt terrorist movements and deny armed groups freedom of action across the North-West.
