Military Eliminates Bandit in Sokoto, Recovers Over 500 Rustled Cattle in Kaduna
Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised a suspected terrorist and foiled a major cattle-rustling operation, recovering more than 500 cattle in separate operations across Sokoto and Kaduna states.
In Sokoto State, troops of Sector 2, while conducting counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations along the Sokoto-Zamfara border axis, intercepted a group of armed terrorists attempting to cross into Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The troops, deployed at Galadi, engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, killing one of the armed men while the others fled the area.
A search of the neutralised terrorist led to the recovery of a military woodland camouflage vest concealed beneath his kaftan.
Further forensic exploitation of the suspect’s mobile device reportedly uncovered photographs showing him wearing the camouflage vest and posing with a PKT machine gun, providing additional intelligence on his alleged affiliation and activities.
The troops also recovered four mobile phones and cash amounting to N30,350 from the scene.

Meanwhile, in Kaduna State, troops of Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, foiled a large-scale cattle-rustling operation in Igabi Local Government Area.
The operation, conducted on September 8, followed a distress call from residents reporting the movement of suspected terrorists and the rustling of cattle at Rugar Mande Kurmin.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the troops deployed to the suspected withdrawal routes of the terrorists and established blocking positions.
The troops subsequently engaged the criminals from multiple positions, forcing them to retreat in disarray and abandon the rustled livestock.
More than 500 cattle were recovered during the operation and subsequently handed over to their respective owners.
The two operations underscore the sustained efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt terrorist and bandit activities, deny criminal elements freedom of action and protect lives and property across the Joint Operations Area.
The Joint Task Force urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations aimed at eliminating terrorist and other criminal elements in the region.
