How Kano Police Arrested Two Suspects Over Murder of Political Commentator
The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal stabbing of a resident of Gaida Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
The victim, identified as Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu, was allegedly attacked after unknown hoodlums forcibly entered his residence around 11:30pm on Monday, September 8, 2026.
The incident was reported to the police by the Commander of the Gaida Vigilante Group, prompting operatives of the Kumbotso Police Division to respond to the scene.
The victim was subsequently rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialists Hospital, Kano, for emergency treatment but was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Kumbotso, in collaboration with tactical units and community stakeholders, to launch an intelligence-driven operation to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The operation led to the arrest of two suspects allegedly linked to the attack.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner on Wednesday.

Kiyawa said the suspects remained in police custody and were undergoing interrogation, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other persons who might have been involved.
He added that statements were being obtained from relevant persons and forensic procedures were being conducted to establish the circumstances and motive behind the attack.
The Commissioner expressed concern over the incident and commiserated with the family of the deceased, assuring residents that the command would ensure that those responsible were brought to justice.
“The Kano State Police Command will not relent in its mandate to protect lives and property. We assure the good people of Kano that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion,” Bakori said.
The command commended the Gaida Vigilante Group for promptly alerting the police, saying the development demonstrated the importance of community participation in crime prevention.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
The command also said additional patrols and intelligence-gathering operations had been deployed in Gaida and neighbouring areas to maintain law and order and prevent further violence.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
