Army to Review Doctrine, Leadership Training to Meet Evolving Warfare — COAS
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, has said the Nigerian Army will continually review its doctrine and leadership training to remain responsive to the changing character of warfare and increasingly complex security threats confronting the country.
Shaibu stated this on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the opening of the 2026 Doctrine and Combat Development Leadership Seminar organised by the Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA) in Minna, Niger State.
The Army chief, who was represented by the Director-General, Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, Abuja, Maj Gen Tariweriye Gagariga, also commissioned housing and other projects executed under the Chief of Army Staff intervention projects.

He said military doctrine must remain dynamic and responsive to operational realities, stressing that lessons learnt from contemporary military operations should be systematically translated into training, leadership practices and combat development.
According to him, the Army must continuously adapt its professional knowledge and operational approaches to address emerging threats and the evolving demands of modern warfare.
The seminar, themed “Enhancing Doctrinal Development in the Nigerian Army for Effective Leadership Training and Operations in a Joint Environment,” is aimed at strengthening leadership development and enhancing the preparedness of personnel for contemporary military operations.
The Chief of Army Staff emphasised the importance of effective doctrinal development in preparing commanders and troops to operate efficiently within increasingly complex and joint operational environments.
