At UNGA, Defence Minister Pledges to Reinvigorate Nigeria’s Global Peacekeeping Operations
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to restoring and expanding its role in international peacekeeping operations.
Musa made the pledge on Tuesday during an operational visit to the Defence Section of Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, following the opening session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which he attended alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, leader of the Nigerian delegation.

A statement signed by Leah Katung-Babatunde, Special Adviser (Media) to the Minister of Defence said, Nigeria’s Defence Attaché to the UN, Brigadier General EA Koleosho, briefed Musa on the section’s strategic activities and operational commitments.
The minister commended Koleosho and his team for their professionalism, loyalty and dedication to the ideals of the United Nations and the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Musa said the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was committed to reinvigorating Nigeria’s participation in global peacekeeping and expanding its active role in international peace and security efforts.
The visit formed part of the minister’s engagements at the 81st UNGA, which brings together world leaders and representatives to deliberate on global peace, security and development.
