Troops foil two kidnapping attempts, rescue 10 victims in Zamfara
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled two separate kidnapping attempts and rescued 10 victims in Zamfara State as part of ongoing operations to restore peace and security across the North-West.
The troops recorded the successes on Sunday, September 27, 2026, during separate operations in Tsafe and Maru Local Government Areas of the state.
In Tsafe LGA, troops deployed along the Tsafe–Funtua Road responded to reports of gunfire around the Kwanoni axis, where armed bandits were reportedly attacking travellers.
The troops, according to a statement, engaged the assailants in a brief exchange of fire after sighting their advancing formation, forcing the bandits to flee into the surrounding terrain.
Before the arrival of the troops, the attackers had reportedly set fire to a commercial vehicle. However, all its occupants were safely evacuated.

The troops also rescued six people from another vehicle that lost control during the attack. The vehicle was subsequently secured, while the highway was cleared to facilitate the safe movement of motorists.
In a separate intelligence-led operation, troops responded to information about an abduction at Kade Daba Village in the Kanoma District of Maru LGA.
The troops swiftly deployed to the area and engaged the kidnappers, forcing them to abandon their captives and flee.
Three victims were rescued at the scene, while a follow-up search of the surrounding area led to the recovery of another victim, bringing the total number rescued from the incident to four.
The rescued victims are currently receiving necessary care and assessment before being reunited with their families.
The latest operations underscore the sustained efforts of troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt kidnapping activities, protect civilians and maintain security along major routes and vulnerable communities in Zamfara State.
