Troops repel ISWAP attack on Kawuri base, kill scores, recover weapons in Borno
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have foiled an attempted infiltration attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military Forward Operating Base at Kawuri in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred at about 11 p.m. on September 25, 2026, when troops observed ISWAP fighters advancing towards the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kawuri, according to security sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama.
The troops immediately engaged the terrorists, triggering a gun battle that forced the attackers to retreat towards the Yuwe axis.
The sources said an unconfirmed number of terrorists were neutralised during the engagement, while surviving fighters fled the area under sustained pressure from the troops.

At about 7:10 a.m. on September 26, troops conducted an exploitation operation along the route reportedly used by the fleeing terrorists.
During the operation, the troops recovered weapons, suspected cannabis sativa, Tramadol tablets, cigarette butts and a muffler believed to have been abandoned by the terrorists as they withdrew from the area.
The recovered items have been taken into military custody for further investigation and intelligence exploitation.
The failed infiltration attempt comes amid intensified operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI against terrorist groups across the North-East.
The ongoing operations are focused on disrupting terrorist camps, movements, logistics and attempts to infiltrate military positions and vulnerable communities.
The incident also highlights the continued efforts by troops to maintain heightened vigilance around Forward Operating Bases and other military positions, particularly in areas where terrorist elements continue to seek opportunities to breach security lines.
