Troops Repel Four-Pronged ISWAP Attack in Borno, Neutralise Over 25 Fighters
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a coordinated multi-front assault by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Kukawa, Borno State, neutralising over 25 fighters.
The terrorists attacked troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion from four different flanks but met stiff resistance from the soldiers, who responded with superior firepower, tactical manoeuvres and effective battlefield coordination.
The Nigerian Army, in a statement signed by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Mohammed Goni, said the troops were supported by the Air Component during the encounter.
It said the combined operation inflicted heavy casualties on the terrorists and forced surviving fighters to flee the area.
“Preliminary assessment indicates that over 25 terrorists were neutralised, with 14 bodies recovered so far,” the statement said.

The troops also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during the exploitation of the area, including six AK-47 rifles.
The Army said further exploitation was ongoing to recover additional weapons, track fleeing terrorists and prevent them from regrouping.
However, PRNigeria gathered that some soldiers were killed during the encounter.
The Nigerian Army condoled with the families of the fallen soldiers, describing their sacrifice and devotion to duty as a testament to their service to the nation.
It said the successful defence of the position demonstrated the combat readiness and resilience of troops in the North-East Theatre, as well as the growing effectiveness of air-ground coordination and joint operations.
The Army said its troops would sustain aggressive patrols, intelligence-led operations and coordinated offensive actions with sister Services and other security agencies to disrupt terrorist networks, protect communities and safeguard the country.
