ACF Appoints Three-Member Interim Leadership in Kano Following Chairman’s Resignation
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Kano State Chapter, has appointed a three-member interim leadership team following the resignation of its Chairman, Dr. Goni Faruk Umar, as part of efforts to resolve internal disagreements and restore unity within the organisation.
The interim leaders are Alhaji (Dr.) Isyaku Umar Tofa, OON, Makaman Bichi; Ambassador Bala Mohammed Sani, mni; and Hajiya Rabia Husaini Adamu.
Their appointments were announced on Saturday by retired General Haliru Akilu during a joint meeting of Kano State representatives on the ACF Board of Trustees and members of the chapter’s executive committee.
According to a statement issued by the chapter’s Publicity Secretary II, Nasiru Yusuf Ibrahim, the meeting took place at the Late Amina Habib ACF Secretariat, Gidan AHIP, Maiduguri Road, Kano.
Akilu explained that the interim team would work with the remaining executive committee members to manage the chapter’s affairs for the rest of its tenure, pending the election of a substantive chairman.
He said the decision was intended to promote reconciliation, rebuild confidence and strengthen cooperation among members following disagreements that had affected the chapter’s activities.
Urging members to put aside their differences, Akilu emphasised that the meeting was convened to resolve outstanding issues rather than revisit past controversies.

“The spirit that should guide every one of us is the same: consultation before decision, integrity before convenience and service before self,” he declared.
He called for patience, humility and constructive dialogue, stressing that the forum’s objectives could only be achieved through collective commitment and mutual respect.
On the leadership transition, Akilu acknowledged receipt of Umar’s resignation letter, in which the outgoing chairman cited the demands of his busy schedule.
He commended Umar for his dedication and contributions to the chapter, expressing hope that he would continue to offer advice and support despite stepping down.
The retired general also praised Assistant Controller-General of Narcotics, Alhaji Abubakar Idris Ahmed, who served as acting chairman for approximately four months during Umar’s absence.
He said Ahmed’s commitment helped sustain the chapter’s activities and maintain administrative continuity during the period.
In their separate remarks, the newly appointed interim leaders expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to work with the executive committee to ensure effective administration until a new chairman is elected.
Akilu urged members to support the leadership transition and refocus the chapter’s attention on pressing challenges facing Kano State and Northern Nigeria, including insecurity, poverty, education, youth empowerment and peaceful coexistence.
