NAF Trains 13 Personnel in Italy to Boost M-346 Aircraft Maintenance Capability
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced specialised training for 13 personnel in Italy to strengthen its technical capacity to maintain M-346 aircraft and enhance operational readiness.
The programme, which began on 13 July 2026, involves four officers and nine airmen and airwomen undergoing training in airframe maintenance, propulsion systems and engine run procedures.
The initiative aligns with the command philosophy of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, which emphasises professionalism, standardised training and mission-focused capability development.
According to the NAF, the training began with theoretical instruction in Turin, Italy, focusing on aircraft airframe and propulsion systems before progressing to practical sessions at the M-346 production facility in Venegono, Varese.

The final phase, which focuses on engine run procedures, involves two officers and four airmen and airwomen. The phase is scheduled for completion on 25 October 2026.
The NAF said the programme is designed to develop specialised technical expertise, improve aircraft serviceability and sustain operational readiness.
The initiative also reflects the Service’s efforts to strengthen indigenous maintenance capacity and ensure that its personnel possess the technical skills required to support advanced aircraft operations.
The Air Force maintained that sustained investment in personnel development remains essential to delivering effective airpower in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
