Troops of the Nigerian military have repelled attempted terrorist attacks on military positions in Borno and Yobe states, killing 48 fighters, while troops in Kaduna State neutralised three terrorists in a separate operation.
The operations also led to the recovery of weapons and ammunition, while troops in Sokoto State recovered 28 cows and 13 sheep suspected to have been stolen by rustlers.
The military disclosed this in separate statements on Friday, detailing operations conducted under Operation HADIN KAI in the North-East and Operation FANSAN YAMMA in the North-West.
According to the statement by the Joint Task Force North-East, troops of Operation HADIN KAI foiled attacks on military positions in Bitta, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, and the North East Theatre Training School (NETTS), Buni Yadi, in Gujba LGA of Yobe State, between October 29 and 30.
In Bitta, troops, supported by air assets, repelled an attempted assault by terrorists, preventing them from overrunning the military position.
At Buni Yadi, troops engaged Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in a counterattack that lasted about five hours, killing 48 terrorists.
The operation also resulted in the recovery of 42 AK-47 rifles, five PKT machine guns, four general-purpose machine guns and one 60mm mortar.

The operation was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist activities and improve security across the North-West.
In another operation on October 30, troops recovered 28 cows and 13 sheep from suspected rustlers in Shanono town, Sokoto State.

The military said the operations formed part of ongoing efforts to deny terrorists and criminal groups freedom of action, protect communities and recover stolen property across the affected regions.
