Kogi Police Clarify Viral Video of Officers’ Arrest, Say Incident Dates Back to 2023 Election
The Kogi State Police Command has clarified that a viral video circulating on social media with the caption, “Police Don Buy Soja Job,” relates to an incident during the 2023 governorship election in the state and does not depict a recent development.
The Command said the incident involved police officers attached to the then Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Ahmed, who accompanied him to his hometown of Abache to exercise his voting rights during the election.
In a statement issued on Friday, November 6, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, explained that the officers were apprehended by military personnel deployed for election duties over the enforcement of the restriction of movement.
She added that the officers were subsequently taken into custody, while the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

The Command said it considered the circulation of the footage without its historical context necessary to correct what it described as a misleading impression about the relationship between the police and the military.
According to the statement, the Police Command currently enjoys strong synergy, mutual respect and operational cooperation with the military and other security agencies in the state.
It noted that the existing partnership remained central to joint security operations and collective efforts to maintain peace and protect lives and property.
The Command warned that recycling outdated footage in ways capable of creating distrust or portraying friction among security agencies was counterproductive and could undermine the cooperation built over time.
It consequently urged members of the public and social media users to verify the authenticity and context of information before sharing, while cautioning against the use of old materials to mislead the public or promote propaganda.
The Kogi State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability and sustained collaboration with sister security agencies in maintaining public safety across the state.
