Social Media: Buratai Cautions Users Against Falsehood on Military
Chief of Army staff (COAS) Lt General Tukur Buratai has warned social media users and the traditional media against spreading falsehood on the military and its operations.
Buratai stated this at the presentation of the COAS research paper by Nigerian Army participants NDC course 27, at the Army headquarters in Abuja.
This is just as the Nigerian Army has been urged to strengthen its audience engagements using social media in psychological operations for enhanced operational efficiency.

He said, there are some “Few unpatriotic social and traditional media that always report propaganda news to make sales at the detriment of lives of our gallant men and women, as well as innocent citizens in the country.”
The Chief of Army Staff reiterated the Army’s proper dissemination of information, to keeping the populace abreast of Nigerian Army activities, so as to avoid being misled by agents of mischievous propaganda through social media
Meanwhile, the paper presenter and team leader, Col TB Ugbaigbe at the occasion believes that lack of social media unit and inadequate audience engagements are some of the factors hindering the efforts of the Nigerian Army in its unrelenting fight against insurgency.
Ugbaigbe, however, suggested that Nigerian Army should improve on its strategies on psychological operations through social media, believing its prospect will enhance operational efficiency.
