Army to upgrade Military Radio Station
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has disclosed that though the Army has recorded tremendous success in the counter-insurgency, the story of their achievements has not gotten adequate publicity.
Buratai, however said the lack of robust publicity on several Army operations is gradually being addressed.
To this end, the COAS said there are plans to upgrade the transmission capacity of Operation Lafiya Dole’s radio station in Borno State.
He said by the time the radio station is upgraded, teeming Nigerians outside Maiduguri and other states, will be kept abreast of important development concerning the Army.
Buratai, made this known, while hosting a delegation of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) who visited him at the Army Headquarters.
He thanked the Radio Nigeria’s team led by its Director General, Dr. Mansur Liman, for the courtesy call, noting that FRCN has continuously played a critical role in enhancing national security and development.
“Indeed, FRCN has provided us their maximum cooperation in diverse areas, especially in terms of effective coverage of the counter-insurgency and other strategic operations.

“It gratifies me to inform the FRCN delegation that we are making plans to see how we can also transmit “The Shield”, a programme we sponsor on your station, in other native languages.
“And this is because, the radio program has helped to eliminate the apathy some individuals and groups of persons have about the Army.
“Hence, I want to assure you all here that the Army is committed to partnering FRCN to promote national peace, unity and harmony, so as to protect the country’s territorial integrity,” said the Army Chief.
Responding, Dr. Liman, who said FRCN has a long-standing relationship with the Army and added that both institutions share a common goal despite having diverse roles and responsibilities to carry out.
He disclosed that FRCN has remained a major stakeholder in the coverage of the annual Armed Forces’ Remembrance Day, and other military operations.
“The Nigerian Army, under lieutenant General Buratai, has done more than impressive. It has liberated many towns from the stranglehold of Boko Haram terrorists,”
“Our gallant troops have also helped rescue many girls and women from the terrorists’ enclaves and dens. These are testaments to the fact that the Nigerian Army has done well, and deserve our cooperation and massive support,” he said.
Dr. Liman, assured Buratai of FRCN’s support towards providing accurate, objective and reliable information on Army’s activities in a bid to address the security challenges bedevilling the country.
