NIPR, Army to Rid PR Profession Of Quacks

The Nigerian Institutes of Public Relations (NIPR) has sought the cooperation of the Army to rid PR profession of quacks that are masquerading themselves as spokespersons in critical institutions.

The President of NIPR, Malam Muktar Zubairu Surajo, made this known on Tuesday, when he led a delegation from the institute on a courtesy call on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai at the Army headquarters Abuja.

He said, “We are here to remind you about the law establishing NIPR. We are trying to cleanse the profession of quackery. We would visit the next Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and appeal to him to set up a Tribunal that will deal with the issue, and we are soliciting the support of the Nigerian Army as we enforce the law on compliance and membership.

Speaking on the forthcoming Reputation Summit which is aimed at fostering national unity, Sirajo said “We intend to gather Nigerians from different backgrounds, religion, and ethnic groups under one roof to sit as a people to discuss the problems confronting us as a nation.

“We are passionate about the cohesion of Nigeria. NIPR is not happy that the fabrics that hold us together are being strained.”

While commending the Nigerian Army for the successes it recorded in the fight against Boko Haram, he lauded the military for upholding high standard in the PR profession by always complying with NIPR Act through the appointment of PR professionals as Spokespersons and Directors of Army Public Relations and always sending Army personnel for workshops and training at NIPR.

In his response, Buratai said PR has helped the Army to discover the missing link between the general public and the Army.

Th army chief said: “Be rest assured that we would collaborate with you in the area of your forthcoming proramme. This visit will be a turning point in the relationship between the Army and NIPR,” he said.

Buratai applauds FIRS on intervention projects, revenue-generation

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has applauded the management of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) for the critical intervention project they recently undertook at the Nigeria Military School (NMS) in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The COAS gave the appreciation, while hosting FIRS’ top management, at the Army Headquarters.

He described the building facility constructed and fully-furnished by FIRS as state-of-the-art, saying the project will go a long way to enhance learning atmosphere for students.

He assured that the facility will be properly maintained, in order to motivate FIRS to do more.

“FIRS, has in recent times, generated and still continue to generate massive revenue for the government. This, more than anything, shows the unrivalled capacity of your dynamic Chairman, Mr. Fowler.

“It is perhaps the reason why many prefer to call him the administrator with a Midas touch,” Buratai said.

While responding, Mr. Babatunde Fowler, commended the Nigerian Army (NA) for their combat strides in protecting the territorial integrity of the country.

The FIRS Chairman, stated that though poverty, illiteracy and high rate of unemployment, among others, have heightened insecurity and civil unrest in the country, the Army has still been proactive and have checked the spate of insurgency and violent crimes.

“FIRS, as a patriotic agency, will like to partner the Army to actualize the goal of building a peaceful, educated and developed society.

“Hence, we pledge to support the army and also provide them educational assistance, in every necessary way.

“To start with, we will be donating 20, 000 exercise books, and about 5, 000 comic books for the pupils and students at various Army Primary and Secondary schools.

“Also, we are going to donate volumes of books on taxation to the Army, so as to educate the younger generation on the importance of paying tax. And how it also helps to stimulate national growth and development,” Fowler added.

Highpoint of the courtesy visit was the exchange of sourvenirs between Buratai and the FIRS boss.
