Chief Judge Frees 33 Prison Inmates in Bauchi
The Bauchi State Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar has released a total number of 33 inmates during her 2019 3rd & 4th quarter jail delivery exercise in the State.
The State Chief Judge in company of members of the State Administration of criminal Justice Committee visited the five Medium Security Custodial Centers in the State and three other Satellite Custodial Centers where she reviewed cases of awaiting trial inmates with minor offences and released 26 inmates while 7 others were released on bail totalling 33.

Briefing newsmen at the end of the two day exercise in Bauchi Medium Security Custodial Center, Justice Rabi T.Umar noted that those released have spent over five years in custody without their cases being duplicated and transmitted to the State Ministry of Justice for legal advice. The Chief Judge maintained that the undue delay had caused the inmates to remain in detention longer than necessary without conviction.She called on the relevant stakeholders in the criminal justice system to be alive to their responsibilities.
The State Chief Judge admonished the released inmates to turn a new leaf and live a meaningful life. She urged them to apologise to their parents and their immediate communities when they get home and be good citizens of the society.
In his remarks, the Controller of Corrections, Bauchi State Command, Suleiman T. Suleiman, commended the Chief Judge for carrying out the Jail delivery exercise adding that it will go a long way in decongesting the Custodial Centers in the State.
The jail delivery exercise saw the release of 1 inmate from Medium Security Custodial Center, Jama’are, 21 from Bauchi Custodial Center, Misau 1, Azare 5, Ningi 4 and 1 from Toro Satellite Custodial Center respectively, making a total number of 33. None was however released from Darazo and Zaki Satellite Custodial Centers.
