Sports Minister hails Cycling Delegates, receive Nigeria’s Velodrome

Hon. Dare, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development could not hide his joy when he received the news of Nigeria’s Velodrome as a world class facility, with no comparison to similar facility in Africa.

The commendation was given by the facilities inspection delegates of the International Cycling Union in company of its Nigeria’s counterpart, the Cycling Federation of Nigeria during a courtesy call on the Minister in his Moshood Abiola Stadium office yesterday.

The Minister in his address stated that government has commenced with maintenance work on the entire stadium facilities, adding, this would enable the stadium attain its much desired glory. He reassured the delegates of the Ministry’s commitment and readiness to play their role accordingly..

Honourable Dare afterwards inquired of them to ensure that their report on the inspection’s findings is suggestive and supportive which will go a long way in assisting the ministry in its current bid to transform the stadium. He also expressed his desire of turning the stadium into a satellite’ cycling city as noted by the delegates stressing that cycling has the potential of promoting sporting activities in the country.

Earlier, the International Cycling Union delegates led by the President, Engr. Massari briefed the Minister on the outcome of their facilities inspection tour.

Engr. Massari who spoke on behalf of the delegates said that they are very pleased with the outcome of their findings. He also noted that the stadium could be turned into a satellite Cycling City.

‎According to their ranking, Nigeria Velodrome satisfied international Standard better than South Africa, adding, it can also stand side by side with that of Egypt which is of world’s standard.
Massari afterwards presented the Minister with documented and video materials of their inspection activities for his review and input.
