Armed Banditry: NEMA Provides Relief to 105,463 IDPs in Sokoto

More than 100, 000 victims of banditry attack in Nine Local Government Areas of Sokoto state received relief support from the Federal Government at the weekend.

The Director General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Engr. Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja stated that the gesture was meant to cushion the plight of the affected victims of the onslaught unleashed by unknown gunmen across some communities in the state.

The Director General who was represented by the Assistant Chief, Search and Rescue Officer, Mr Daniel Atabo said the gesture was meant to cushion the plight of about 105, 463 people displaced by bandits in the nine local government areas of the state.

He reiterated the commitment of the agency in line with its mandate to prompt intervention in other to bring succour to the plight of disaster victims in the country.

He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items distributed to them and also commiserate with them on the incident.

Also speaking the Special Assistant to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal in charge of the State Emergency Management Agency, Zubairu Magaji thanked the federal government for the gesture.

The Sole Administrator of Goronyo local government area, Alhaji Zakari Shinaka, said 90 percent of their IDPs had returned to their various villages due to improved security in the area.

The District head of Gandi, Macchido however, warned that any of the beneficiaries found selling the items would be dealt with accordingly.

Among the beneficiaries were the 21,500 victims of banditry who have been taking shelter at Gandi Primary school in Rabah local government area for two years now.

The items distributed included, 15,000 and 5000 bags of 50kg each of Sorghum and millets as well as 12,500 bags of Garri.
