In an effort to ensure that all the expectant mothers in Internally displaced persons camps deliver in a dignified manner, the National Emergency Management Agency has distributed delivery kits to support 410 pregnant women who are due for delivery between now and next month in Maiduguri, Borno State.

At the occasion in Maiduguri, the Director General, Muhammad Sani Sidi said  Borno state has been the worst hit in term of displacement in the history of Nigeria which led to establishment of 23 camps in the state. He said that with the state government approval two additional camps would be established to accommodate the 12,000 state indigenes repatriated from Republic of Cameroun.

“In all the camps in the state 60 percent of the IDPs are women and children classified as vulnerable and needed more support which as a result 410 pregnant women were selected out of 1980 identified pregnant women in 13 female IDP camps in Maiduguri” he added.

In his remarks, the Executive Governor of Borno State, Kasim Shetima said the issue of reproduction health of women was so vital and an importance.  He thanked NEMA for all the support to people of Borno and support for the pregnant women in the state.

The United Nations, Resident Coordinator,  Mr. Douda Toure commended NEMA for providing for the extreme vulnerable people, the pregnant women as he appealed for rehabilitation and reconstruction of the communities for the people to go back to their normal lives.

Each pregnant woman received one kit that contained wax print, set of feeding bottles, baby mattress, baby blanket and baby net.  Others are baby bag, milk for the mother, milo for the mother, pampers, basket, towel and baby soap.
