NCoS Adopts Proactive Measures to Protects Inmates
The Honourable Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has commended the Nigerian Correctional Service on the strategic preparedness and response plan put in place against the spread of the Coronavirus disease, popularly known as COVID-19 in all Nigerian Custodial Centres
Aregbesola gave the commendation on Friday in his Office in Abuja when the Controller General of Corrections, Ja’afaru Ahmed presented to him a strategic preparedness and response plan put in place by the Service against the spread of the disease in the Custodian Centres in the country
The Minister who commended the Management and Staff of the Service for their pro-activenesss towards the prevention of the spread of the disease in all the Nigerian Correctional Centres called on them further, to sustain the efforts and ensure strict adherence to personal hygiene by both the inmates and personnel of the Service.
“I commend the brilliant efforts of the Management and Staff of the Nigerian Correctional Service for the steps already adopted in managing the containment and spread of the COVID-19, all hands must be on deck to sustain the efforts”, Aregbesola said

Ogbeni Aregbesola assured further that President Muhammadu Buhari Administration is fully committed to ensuring public safety and security of all Nigerians including those behind bars.
Earlier in his briefing, the Controller General of Corrections, Ja’afaru Ahmed said that the proactive measures adopted by the Service against the spread of the disease in all Correctional facilities in the country include ensuring that inmates and personnel of the Service maintain high standard of personal hygiene, especially regular hand washing, organize sensitisation lectures on the nature, spread and prevention of the disease, collaborate with the epidemiological unit of their States Ministry of Health and Centre for Disease Control in areas of intervention, make space available in the centres as isolation wards for suspected cases and also proper screening of visitors and new admissions into the centres, among others.
Ja’afaru added that the Service will continue to be in touch with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Federal Ministry of Health and other relevant government institutions as part of efforts in responding to, and preparedness for the prevention of any form of pandemic
