No Coronavirus Patient in Lagos Prisons
The Nigerian Correctional Service, Lagos State Command as part of its coronavirus prevention measures recently received a second batch of medical personal protective equipment from the Lagos State Government.
While receiving the items, the State Controller on behalf of the Controller General of Corrections Ja’afaru thanked the Lagos State Government for their donations and assured the public that the Correctional Service is well positioned to prevent COVID-19 from the Custodial Centres. Items donated comprise hand gloves, sanitizer, facial masks and inferred thermometers.
Controller SI Iyakoregha while addressing officers, men and inmates at the Maximum Custodial Centre, Kirikiri- Lagos, was full of praise for the medical staff at the custodial centre for ensuring a high level of professionalism and surveillance. He further charged the medical workers who are at the front line in the prevention of covid-19 to be diligent and committed to their duties.
Iyakoregha reiterated that there is no case or suspected case of the coronavirus in any of the facilities in Lagos state command and all hands are on deck to ensure that the Service will maintain the status quo.
While fielding questions from the inmates, Controller Iyakoregha assured the inmates that the Service is working hard with the office of the state Attorney General to ensure that those who are qualified for the presidential Amnesty are release soonest. He enjoins all inmates to be prayerful and continue to exhibit a high level of personal hygiene while awaiting the pending released.

COVID-19: GOVERNOR TAMBUWAL PARDONS 18 INMATES, FUMIGATES CUSTODIAL CENTRE

In its efforts to decongest the custodial centers in the state state,Sokoto state government under the able leadership of his Excellency Rt.Hon.Aminu Waziri Tambuwal(CFR) had graciously granted Amnesty to 18 inmates from the two major Correctional facilities in the state.
In his statement the representative of the State governor, State Attorney general and Commissioner of Justice, Brr.Suleman Usman,tasks the benefitting inmates to be law abiding citizens of the society,as they were considered by the State committee on prerogative of Amnesty amongst their peers, based on good conduct and industry,while serving their jail terms.
Brr. Suleman added that; the state government had exercise it’s constitutional power to decongest the custodial centers,as one of the measures to prevent the spread of the deadly Covid-19 Pandemic in the state.18 inmates from the medium security custodial center Sokoto and 3 inmates from the Custodial Farm centre Bissalam, benefited from the exercise.
In a separate development, the State government under it’s ministry of environment, supervised the fumigation of the medium security custodial center Sokoto.The fumigation cuts across the workshops,gutters,yard premises and suck-aways.
The Controller of Corrections Sokoto state command,Sabo Sama Chafe,through the deputy Controller of Corrections, Medium security custodial center Sokoto,DCC Idris Muhammed,described the efforts of the State government in decongestion and fumigation of the custodial centers, as apt and timely,that will eased the tension of the two major custodial centers from the spread of the Covid-19 Pandemic.The Controller appreciated the concerted efforts of the state government, in considering the plight of inmates at this critical moments.
