COVID-19: 188 Prison Inmates Granted Amnesty in Kebbi

In a bid to curtailed the spread of the Novel Corona Virus Disease (covid-19) Pandemic the Federal Government directed that all Correctional Centres in the Country be Decongested.

It is against this backdrop that the State Committee on Prerogative of Mercy released one hundred and eighty eight (188) Prisoners from Kebbi State Custodial facilities.

Federal Government approved the Release of Fifty (50) Inmates while no fewer than one hundred and thirty eight (138) Prisoners were freed courtesy of Kebbi State Government.

Breakdown of the Jail Delivery saw the Release of 37 Inmates from Argungu, 33 from Birnin Kebbi (new), 24 from Yauri, 40 from Zuru and 49 from Birnin Kebbi Medium Security Custodial Centres. While 2 Inmates each were released from Warra and Bagudo and 1 other from Kamba Satellite Custodial Facilities.

The Gesture cuts across 27 Awaiting Trial Persons, 146 Convicts,1 Female Inmate and 14 others were Released on Bail respectively.

Chairman of the Committee and Kebbi State Chief Judge, Justice Suleiman Muhammad Ambursa warned the Beneficiaries to stay at Home and stay off Crime.

The Controller Nigerian Correctional Service Kebbi State Command, CCS.Abu Sanu, who earlier toured the Ten Correctional Facilities in his domain to ensure compliance with (covid-19) preventive measures, Sensitized the Inmates (in custody and released) on Personal Hygiene, Social Distancing, as well as Hand Washing with Sanitizer/Soap and Water in order to fight against the Pandemic.

He profoundly thanked Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for donating Ten Thousand Naira each to the released inmates, and Hand Sanitizers, Soaps, Nose Mask among others to the Command.
