We’re Playing Non-Medical Role in COVID-19 Fight–Environment Minister
The Minister of Environment, Dr. Muhammad Mahmood Abubakar, has stated that the Federal Ministry of Environment (FMENV) is ready to play non-medical role at this critical stage, as the country continues to battle with the ravaging Coronavirus.
Dr. Abubakar, spoke at the Ministry’s Conference Room, when he received a delegation of Global Legislators Organization for a Balanced Environment (GLOBE), a non-governmental organization (NGO), on Monday.
The GLOBE delegation, were at the FMENV to present bags of face masks, they donated to boost Federal Government’s effort in fighting the deadly pandemic.
The Minister said: “The pandemic is environment based and there is heavy responsibility on this Ministry to play non-medical role at this critical stage.”
While expressing appreciation to Messrs GLOBE for its timely response as a GEF partner in donating the face masks, Dr. Abubakar, explained that the enormity of the challenges posed by the suddenness of COVID-19 on all citizens worldwide requires steps to mitigate against the spread of the disease.
“The peculiar nature of some vulnerable groups within our society requires assistance to them and these face masks will be of immense help to curb community spread,” he said.
In his remarks, Hon. Sam Onuigbo, President of Globe Nigeria, said their gesture was in solidarity and support for FG’s effort in implementing the ease of lockdown in the FCT.
Onuigbo, said: “It is our hope that this widow’s mite worth of face masks will support the ongoing efforts of the Federal Government to protect Nigerian citizens from COVID-19 infections.”
