Robust, Cost Effective Strategies Needed to Defeat B’Haram–Buratai

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, said evolving robust and cost effective strategies is central to winning the war against insurgency, and other crimes in the country.

Buratai, who pointed out that the myriads of security challenges confronting the nation cut across the entire geopolitical zones, with the North East as the epicentre, said the insecurity challenges are impacting on the country’s lean national resources.

He spoke as the special guest of honour, while declaring open the Army Headquarters (AHQ) ‘Training on Auditing and Accounts Rendition, for Nigerian Army Finance Corps’ (NAFC) personnel.

The training was organised to broaden the knowledge of finance officers and clerks on some salient administrative skills required for prudent management of scarce resources and rendition of accounts.

“For NA personnel in various theatres of operations, it is incumbent on you to continue to evolve robust and cost effective strategies to defeat the remnants of BHT and ISWAP members, as well as other criminals across other geo-political zones of our country,” Lt. Gen. Buratai said.

According to the COAS, who was represented by the Army’s Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP), Lt. Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, it has become imperative to enhance the knowledge of Commanders at all levels, and their finance officers on the requirements for standard record keeping, extant laws on public funds administration and generally accepted accounting principles.

He said this is with a view to minimizing or possibly eliminating errors that normally, leads to audit queries, which sometimes end up at Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly.

“The training is in line with the mandates given to DAFM to reinvigorate the Nigerian Army’s internal financial control system, identify and block possible avenues for leakages or wastages and improve synergy between available resources and operational impact of the NA,” he added.

Buratai, urged all participants to take the training seriously and derive maximum benefits from the lecture and practical sessions.
