Lawyers Jailed for N24m Fraud In Lagos
The Lagos Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction and sentencing of two lawyers, Sogo Akinola and Feranmi Akinluyi, before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.
The convicts were arraigned sometime in October 2018 on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretences and stealing to the tune of N24m.
One of the counts reads: “ That you, Sogo Akinola and Feranmi Akinluyi, between 13th October, 2016 and 13th November, 2016 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable court, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N24 Million (Twenty-four Million Naira) from Olawale Oyetunde, under the pretence that the money was part-payment for the purchase of property at 21, Adegbenle Street, Chevy View Estate, off Chevron Drive, Lekki Lagos, which representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, No. 14 of 2006.”
The defendants pleaded “not guilty” to the charge preferred against them, thereby leading to their full trial.
In the course of the trial, the prosecution, through its counsel, Spiff Owede, called five witnesses and tendered several documents that were admitted in evidence by the court.

Delivering her judgement, Justice Taiwo found the defendants guilty of the offence and sentenced them to two years imprisonment each, with an option of fine of N1m( One Million Naira).

EFCC Hands Over Recovered Hospital Equipment to Sokoto SDG
The Sokoto Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, December 17, 2020, handed over 2011 Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, equipment comprising 10 beds with accessories, 10 mattress, one Microscope (manual), one Sterilizer (manual), one Suction Machine (manual), among others, to Mallam Zayyanu Mohammad, Desk Officer, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Ministry of Local Government, to equip the newly built Community Health Services Centre in Jangebe Village, Bado/Danhela Council Ward, Bodinga Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
The equipment were recovered in November 2019 for the people of Jangebe Village.
The Zonal head, DCDS Bawa Usman Kaltungo, while handing over the equipment, described the development as a milestone in the fight against corruption and appealed to people to always provide information to EFCC to assist it in fighting corruption.
“Information to EFCC is very critical,” he said.
In his response, Mallam Muhammad commended the Commission for its achievements so far in the zone . He assured the Commission that the equipment would be delivered to the community.
