NCoS, NDLEA Jointly Wage War Against Drug Abuse in Osun
The Nigerian Correctional Service, Osun State Command and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have decided to organise workshops, sensitisation programmes and counseling sessions for inmates and officers of NCoS in the state, on the evils and consequences of drug abuse.
The laudable innovative collaboration was arrived at during the courtesy visit of Controller of Corrections, Olanrewaju Amoran, to the State Commander, NDLEA, Mr Samuel Egbeola, at his office in Osogbo recently.
In his speech, Controller Amoran highlighted the need for collaboration to organise workshops/lectures and counseling sessions for inmates at the Custodial Centres on the ills of abusing drugs. He added that the programme should be extended to his officers and men. Which can be fixed for Thursdays, that are lecture days in NCoS formations.
Additionally, the Controller shed lights on the new addition to NCoS, the Non-Custodial Service. He solicited for the assistance of NDLEA in handling and dealing with offenders, who are drug addicts, sentenced by the courts to Non-Custodial measures.
While responding, Mr Egbeola pledged to work assiduously and see to it that the collaboration come to fruition. He assured his guest of the availability of competent and qualified personnels, who will handle the programmes successfully. He wished the Controller memorable experiences during his stay in the state.
Some members of the Command’s management team were part of the Controller’s entourage. The visit came to an end with group photographs.

FCT CONTROLLER OF CORRECTIONS FLAGS OFF TRAINING OF COURT ORDERLIES AND RECORD CLERKS
The Controller of Corrections FCT command Abdul-Rahman Maiyaki has on wednesday 23rd December 2020, flagged off a 5 day intensive training of court orderlies and record clerks at the command hall in Gwagwalada, Abuja
This is the first set of 28 officers that will be posted to all courts within the FCT.
In his remarks, the Controller explains that these crop of officers will be responsible for curbing congestion in our facilities by ensuring that communication between the courts and the custodial centres are not breached.
The training which draws resource persons from the FCT high court, the NBA as well as veteran correctional officers, is geared towards enriching the knowledge base of the correctional service officers in the documentation and reporting of court processes and discrepancies that may hinder the smooth dispensation of justice. This is in line with the Controller General of Nigerian Correctional service, Ahmed Ja’afaru’s goal of building synergy and ensuring sustained decongestion of the custodial centres.
Controller Maiyaki further encouraged the staff to be good ambassadors of the service and shun all forms of irregularities that may arise upon the discharge of their duties.
